Privacy Policy

1. Information you provide

Account: your email address (for login), an optional display name, username, and profile photo.
Age band: a self-declared age band ("Under 18", "18 or older", or "Prefer not to say") used solely to enforce the adult↔minor safety gate and apply minor-safe defaults. We do not display your age publicly or use it for advertising.
Profile: an optional bio and interests you choose to share.
Content: the Picks, options, comments, votes, reactions, and messages you create.

2. User-generated content

We store the content you create so we can show it to you and others according to your privacy settings. Picks are generally public; your individual vote on most Picks is not shown to others (only aggregated results). We tell you before you vote if a social format may show your choice.

3. Social graph — Say Hi, friends & rooms

If you say hi, become friends, join or host a Bored Room, or block or mute someone, we store those connections to surface Picks from people you know, to gate messaging to confirmed friends, and to keep the adult↔minor gate working. We do not reveal whether a specific user is a minor beyond what is needed for safety.

4. Messages

Direct messages are stored to deliver them to you and the recipient. They are visible only to participants. You can unsend your own messages; others can report messages. Messages are never used for advertising. BoredMondays currently supports text, Pick cards, room invites, and MyInsight shares in messages — no images, video, audio, or files.

5. MyInsight & share links

MyInsight computes an entertainment summary of your Pick patterns. When you create a share, we generate a privacy-screened snapshot that excludes your raw answers, private Picks, People Pick targets, and friend names. Minor accounts produce an extra-filtered, minor-safe share. Anyone with the share link can view that snapshot without an account; you can revoke a share at any time.

6. Guest participation & play-first preview

Before you complete entry (age, location, and Terms acknowledgment), you can answer a limited number of preview questions. Preview questions are pre-approved, age-neutral Safe-Play content, and your answers are stored only on your own device — they are not transmitted to our servers, not used for profiling, personalization, or advertising, and cannot be tied to you. Because the preview collects no personal information from any visitor, it is designed to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

If you open a shared Pick without an account, we do not require your name, contacts, location, or date of birth. We use lightweight technical measures to reduce vote manipulation. No guest activity is tied to a profile.

7. Technical information

We receive basic device and usage information necessary to operate the service through our hosting platform. We do not collect precise GPS location and do not expose location for minors.

8. Contacts

We do not automatically upload or continuously sync your contacts. Any contact access requires your explicit permission, and you can use username search or an invite link instead.

9. How we use information

To operate the app, show results, personalize your feed, provide safety features including the adult↔minor gate and moderation jurisdiction system, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information.

10. Sharing

We share information only as described here, to run features you use (e.g. showing a Pick to its intended audience, delivering a message to its recipient), or as required for safety, legal compliance, or to protect rights. Service providers who help us operate may process data under appropriate agreements.

11. Data retention

We keep your content while your account is active. You can request deletion in Settings; on deletion your content is removed or de-identified. Some aggregated, de-identified data may be retained. Safety and legal records (reports, policy acceptances) may be retained as required even after account deletion.

12. Children & teens

We do not allow accounts for users under 13. Users under 18 receive enhanced safety defaults including private profiles, People Pick approval, limited discoverability, no public birthday, no precise location, and no human-attractiveness ranking. See our Child Safety Standards for details.

13. Your choices

You can adjust profile visibility, who can say hi to you, messaging, blocking, muting, and read receipts in your profile settings; remove yourself from People Picks; revoke MyInsight shares; and delete your account at any time.

14. Security

We apply standard platform security measures including encrypted transit and service-role gating of cross-user data. No system is perfectly secure.

15. Your privacy rights

Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact privacy@boredmondays.com to exercise these rights.

15b. BoredGuard & safety scanning

BoredMondays runs BoredGuard, an automated safety system. Public Room chat, room titles, usernames, display names, bios, profile images, and public Picks are scanned for spam, scams, harassment, hate, child-safety risk, and ban evasion. Scanning uses deterministic rules, specialized classifiers, and contextual LLM review for ambiguous content. Where we process private friend messages for abuse/safety, we do so only as disclosed here and only for legitimate safety purposes — BoredMondays is not end-to-end encrypted and we do not claim it is. Human moderators do not casually browse private messages; access is limited to reports, high-confidence safety alerts, security incidents, child-safety escalations, and lawful process, and is logged. Safety-scanned content is never repurposed for advertising, BoredBrain interests, BoredMirror personality, or MyInsight. BoredGuard risk signals (spam, scam, harassment, child-safety, automation, ban-evasion) are internal and never exposed publicly.
